Police Shoot 2 UNIOSUN Students
Policemen in Osun state on Saturday shot two students of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Osogbo, while they were playing football.
The victims are Kazeem Adesola and Ibrahim Ajao.
The Policemen who came in plain clothes, had accused some students on the pitch of being involved in internet fraud.
An eyewitness, who craved anonymity, accused the police of persistently extorting money from students.
The eyewitness, a student of the institution, said the resistance by those on the pitch led to Saturday’s shooting incident.
“We were playing football when the policemen came. They always come like that to arrest students. They would say that we are involved in Yahoo-Yahoo (internet fraud) and they would seize our laptops and phones.
They would collect money on the pretext of granting us bail. But we resisted them on this occasion and within a twinkle of an eye, the policemen started shooting.
When the policemen started shooting, we ran away but the bullets hit two students who were immediately rushed to hospital. The bullet hit one in the stomach and the second one in his mouth,’’ he said.
Following the shooting, the students went into major streets to protest. They lit bonfires and impeded human and vehicular traffic within the Osogbo metropolis.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Fimihan Adeoye, while visiting the victims at the Ladoke Akintola Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, confirmed the development.
He said that the policemen involved had been arrested and detained, assuring the victims that they would face the full wrath of the law.
The commissioner also said he had ordered full scale investigation into the matter.
He, however, advised the students of the institution not to take the law into their hands, saying the essence of the investigation was to establish that such an act was committed and to determine those involved.
“The two students injured in the incident are being attended to now at the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, and that’s why I am here to ensure that the victims are well treated,’’ he said.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Labode Popoola, who was also at the hospital, said the students were exposed to danger because the institution is non-residential.
He said efforts were being made to build hostels and ensure that students live within the campus where they could be properly monitored and supervised.

Foluke Daramola Actress' husband tells marriage critics to mind their business
Kayode Salako, the husband of Nollywood actress, Foluke Daramola, has told those out to destroy his marriage to stay out of his business.
In an interview with Punch News, Salako lashed out at his critics who reportedly inform his wife whenever he is sighted with another woman.
He said his detractors, who are mostly men, will never achieve their goal, which is to destroy his marriage with the actress.
“The truth is that all these people that want our marriage to crash are not strong enough because I married my best friend.
"Our marriage is stronger than whatever plans they have for us. What baffles me more is that it is men that are praying for us to have a crisis.
"If it were to be women, I would understand because women are known to like to gossip but it is the men that are responsible for this.
"It makes me ask what they are up to; what is their interest? I was having a business meeting with a lady and I noticed another guy was also at the same venue with a lady as well.
"The guy actually picked up his phone to text my wife that I was with a lady at a restaurant. I am 45 years old, if anyone thinks that my life revolves around my wife alone, then they should have a re-think.
"No man in life can prosper without associating with women and that is why God created Adam and Eve.
"I cannot stop socialising with women because I am married to Foluke Daramola but that does not mean that I want to send her out of my house or I want to marry more wives.
"As human beings, you have to interact with both men and women. Has anyone ever seen a church or mosque that is solely built for men?
"It simply means that we all need ourselves. People should mind their business and stop trying to destroy my marriage."

Photos: wOw!! Meet This 4 Year Old Girl Who Has Already Read 1,000 Books
Daliyah Marie Arana, from Gainesville, Georgia, became hooked on reading after she started recognising words at just 18 months old.
She now enjoys books written for university students and only needs help if she gets stuck on a ‘big’ word, her parents said.
Her mother Haleema told the Times of Gainesville newspaper that she and her husband Miguel started reading to Daliyah ‘right when she was born’.
Their daughter would also hear them reading stories to their two other children, she said.
‘We would literally read every day, about 15 to 20 minutes a day,’ Mrs Arana said. ‘By the time she was 18, 19 months, we realized she could recognize a lot of the words. And we kind of took it from there.’
By the time she turned three, Daliyah was reading books on her own.
The little girl signed up to the Georgia 1,000 Books B4 Kindergarten Program – but ticked all the books off her list before preschool. She hopes to have read 1,500 by the time she starts kindergarten this autumn.
Mr and Mrs Haleema wrote to Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden about their daughter’s achievement and Ms Hayden was so impressed she invited Daliyah for a tour last week and to serve as ‘Librarian for the Day’.

In just 48 hours before his expected handover, the outgoing Gambian President, Yahya Jammeh, has declared a 90-day state of emergency.
Outgoing Gambian President Yahya Jammeh has declared a 90-day state of emergency a day before his official mandate ends, state TV reports.
Regional leaders have been unsuccessfully trying to persuade him to hand over power to Adama Barrow, who won December’s elections.
The move comes after Nigeria deployed a warship to further pressure Mr. Jammeh.
Regional bloc, Ecowas has prepared a force but maintains that military intervention would be a last resort.
The exact terms of the state of emergency remain unknown, as no details were provided with the announcement.
The president is meant to be inaugurated as the new president on Thursday.
He initially accepted the election results but then decided he wanted them annulled after the electoral commission admitted some errors, although it insists this did not affect the final outcome.
The Supreme Court is unable to hear the challenge until May because of a shortage of judges, and Mr Jammeh has said he will not step down until then.
At least three Gambian ministers, including the foreign minister, have resigned in recent days. Thousands of Gambians have also fled to neighbouring Senegal amid fears of violence.
