The Kano State House of Assembly has ordered the immediate removal of all Kwankwasiyya inscriptions from public buildings in Kano metropolis and other local government areas of the state.
The Kwankwasiyya movement is linked to the state's immediate former governor, Senator Rabiu Kwakwanso.
The lawmakers gave the directive on Wednesday, August 24, following a motion by Alhaji Baffa Babba-Dan-Agundi, member representing Kano Municipal Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Education.
The motion was said to have been unanimously adopted by all the 40 members of the Assembly.
The House also directed that the Kwankwasiyya inscriptions be replaced with the names of prominent citizens of the state.
It gave the 44 local government councils a month ultimatum to comply with the order.
Pulse recalls that armed policemen on Tuesday stormed the Kano residence of Kwankwaso over an alleged plan by the former governor to conduct a mass wedding of the Kwankwasiyya faithful.
It is believed that the animosity between Kwankwaso and his predecessor, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has deepened following the police invasion of his house.
